After the usual morning of gift opening and wrapping paper gathering and battery finding, we had several people over for lunch – an young Indian couple and two Korean sisters. The Indian man is an accountant for a local company and the Korean women both sing professionally for the St. Louis Symphony Chorus.

All four of our Christmas dinner guests

It was very enjoyable to hear about their Christmas traditions and to discuss cultural differences. We covered it all – food, celebrations, gender roles, even church evangelists and the debate surrounding Bible translations. It was surprising how many commonalities they both had, but since they are both from Asian cultures that shouldn’t be a big surprise.

Certainly an enjoyable way to spend Christmas afternoon, and a reminder that the Church is a global church, regardless of our individual cultures.
