We are not an English only family. Obviously English is primary, but we really make an effort to use other languages regularly – we still speak quite a bit of Bulgarian, as well as remnants of college French and German. We want our children’s world view to be just that, a world view, not an Amerocentric view. (Is that even a word?) There are many ways we go about this, but knowing that English is not the only way to communicate is a popular one right now.

Principesa is learning a lot of words in Spanish right now. Last night Beloved asked her if she knew how to say hello in Spanish. She thought for a second and then lifted her hand and waved hello. Cross cultural communication at its best!
